About Landscape Design & Construction

What Is Design/Build?

Vale Landscaping specializes in landscape design/build in the greater Boston, north and south shore and eastern Massachusetts areas. Design/build is the process of conceptualizing and graphically representing your garden and installing it within one company. This process combines the traditionally separate disciplines of design and installation, resulting in projects that are both readily built and creative. In addition, this allows for responsiveness to changes during the installation that help keep the project both within budget and true to the original design intent. A landscape designer will be your trusted resource during the design and creation of your property. Our designers lead a diverse and experienced team of professionals and other trades people with the desire to build a beautiful final project for you.

What Do We Do?

We provide landscape design & construction in eastern Massachusetts. We perform a range of services from a single tree installation to comprehensive total property transformations. Each project we design and construct is a unique reflection of our client's personality and takes into account all aspects of the property. This is accomplished through careful listening and a through site visit. During this site visit, building architecture, topography and drainage; soil types, wind exposure, sun exposure, shade, roots, and ledge are examples of what is taken into consideration to design your project. We will develop a graphic plan, constructing your landscape project according to that plan. This is achieved through collaboration with the client, designer and our talented, professional crews.

Our services include:

Design

Our landscape design company in MA uses the latest technology to help create your landscape. We have a professionally and formally trained landscape designer and design assistants that can utilize a combination of hand-rendered and computer-generated (CAD) drawings. These design services include:

Landscape Master Plans:
For clients that need all aspects of the property taken into consideration; vehicular and pedestrian circulation, plantings, grading and drainage, lighting, walls, walkways, patios, pools etc.
Planting Plans:
For clients that already have established hardscapes and do not desire changes to them, planting plans provide gardens for front, side and rear foundations, backyard patios and terraces, privacy issues, overly shady or dry areas, and any other specific areas to the property.
Hardscape Plans:
For clients that need a wall, walkway or patio replaced and redesigned or vehicular and/or pedestrian circulation changes or upgrades. Changes often include redirecting visitors to your front door, rather than your mud room or upgrading to a premium material from concrete, asphalt or some other outdated material. It can include driveway and/or walkway relocation and/or widening, and a sitting wall installation to expand the usability of your new or existing patio.
Environmental Designs & Rain Gardens:
For clients that need to retain runoff on their property as a result of a new addition or other change in the landscape. It is actually illegal in Massachusets to increase the volume of water flow off of your property and onto someone else’s. By capturing runoff, rain gardens prevent storm water from going down the storm drain and out to our rivers, ponds and bays. Rain gardens also help replenish our aquifers and groundwater-fed rivers and ponds by recharging rainwater into the ground rather than down the storm drains. In fact, rain gardens absorb 30% more water than the same size area of lawn!

Site Survey & Design

After discussing your specific needs, our landscape design team will measure and photograph your site and take notes to prepare a base plan upon which your landscape plan will be developed. A site survey will be developed in-house and take all of the following into consideration: all building architecture, hierarchy of projected uses for all doors, views both positive and negative on and off the site; environmental factors such as wind, sun, shade, soil conditions, topography, wetlands and existing plant material. There are many other site specific factors that we include and consider as well. A graphic illustration is created that addresses all of the ideas and requirements discussed at our first design consultation as well as some that may have developed as a result of the design process. We do not sell out designs to be constructed by anyone other than Vale Landscaping, thus the design and ideas associated with the design remain the property of Vale Landscaping.

Construction Contract & Scheduling

We will make an appointment to present the design and construction proposal for the installation of your new landscape typically within a week but for larger projects it may take longer. During our presentation we will review program objectives, plantings, and materials that will all be in your construction proposal booklet. Our construction proposal and booklet are yours to keep and review. It will have pictures of suggested plantings and hardscaped materials and an outlined contract with options for a single or multi-phased installation. When we receive your signed contract and scheduling deposit we will schedule your job. Work typically begins within four to six weeks of contract acceptance, depending on weather and the time of year.

Installation

Depending on the scope of your project and what needs to be done in what order, it is normal to have different numbers of crew members on your project from day to day. We will let you know how long you should expect us to be on your property. Weather and unforeseen underground problems can play a large role in our construction time line, but we will do our best to update you as to the progress of your project should something like this arise.

Follow-up

We will meet with you on site to walk through your completed landscape. Any items that require attention will be noted on a punch list and will be promptly resolved. There are watering and aftercare instructions for the maintenance of your new landscape located at the back of your landscape construction booklet. These are meant to help you through the establishment period of your new landscape. You may contact your landscape designer at any time with detailed questions.
